Vigil in Solidarity with the Peoples of the Indian Ocean to be Held Tuesday, February 1 in San Francisco

A vigil to commemorate individuals and communities impacted by the devastating earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004 will take place on Tuesday, February 1 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the steps of San Francisco City Hall. The vigil is free and open to people of all faiths.

In the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, residents of the San Francisco Bay Area who have lost parents and other family members, friends and colleagues in the countries directly affected, as well as all members of the community affected by the tragedy, will come together to honor this tremendous loss and struggle -- both for people so far away, and for us locally -- to create space and time to grieve, to connect, and to heal.

The Interfaith Council will lead the vigil and invite representatives of different faith to pray and chant during the service. The vigil is co-organized by The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum ( www.apiahf.org ) and Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center ( www.apiwellness.org ), in conjunction with San Francisco, California, and U. S. elected officials.
